Blogger Expectations- Blogmas Day 11

Hello!

Today's post is all about the expectations, or the expectations we feel as bloggers to create a particular type of content.
Is is just me but we all have high expectations of ourselves, let alone thinking of what our readers might be thinking. Do they like this content? Particular themed posts and style of posts? Is my content good enough? Then result in having tons of draft posts and unused images? That is most certainly myself, which is why the amount of content on my blog over the last year has been very little. Is it just me or do we all give ourselves a hard time? because we don't want to disappoint our readers and ourselves, we think about what we would like to achieve, which in some circumstances is unreachable, and in the process stress out and make ourselves anxious.

I for one have always preferred quality over quantity but with so many other bloggers, setting such high examples of content and consistency on posting, it's hard to not feel stressed if you are not doing the same thing. I think it's great that some bloggers have the opportunity to work on their blogs on a daily basis, even make it their jobs but what about those who have a passion for blogging but feel they can't reach these expectations?

I can tell you now, I can feel like this for time to time when it comes to my blog. I don't want the magic of content creation to be lost, but because of the anxiety of me thinking readers of my blog and others have particular expectations, I freak out about it. I suppose on some level, working to the expectations of your readers is important, especially when it comes to building up an audience, but we should set the bar of what is to be expected? Let's face it, we all have started blogging because we enjoy sharing our creativity, interests and hobbies to an online audience who are interested in the similar things. So why let this cloud our judgment of our blogs? Maybe it's the pressure of the blogosphere, or we are all just too hard on ourselves. I say the second one!

Taking part in Blogmas has in some ways has clouded my judgment of blogging, because we follow trends and tags leaving us with high expectations of ourselves and of others content. Blogmas has most definitely been a challenge for me, especially as I don't blog on a daily basis. I have had discussions with other bloggers on Instagram and Twitter through blogger networks about this, and a few thought I was a little crazy for attempting Blogmas and quite honestly I think I am. I set goals and expectations for myself higher than normal, resulting in me going into panic mode trying to make time for a post for Blogmas. Trying to fit in taking snaps and writing up posts around working and other engagements. It's been tough. Deciding to take part in Blogmas on the last day of November wasn't the brightest of ideas. Of course, I am going to carry on with Blogmas this year, I would like to prove myself that I can do it, however, one lesson I have learned from the experience is to plan in advance and write up as much content before the post is due, to relieve the stress. Also, work at your own pace, not what others are doing or what you think is expected of you. Your blog is your own creative space, you're the boss.

Do you feel the pressure of blogging?

Don't forget to follow me on Bloglovin to keep up with Blogmas and follow me on Instagram and Twitter.

See you tomorrow!
